The Department for Soft Matter studies are large spectrum of open questions in liquids and soft solids.

In particular we are interested in phase boundaries, i.e. gas bubbles, decorated bubbles, vapor bubbles in hydrogels, dynamics of droplets, interaction of cells with flows and acoustic waves, as well as cavitation in general.

Our speciality is the study of very fast phenomena on microscopic scales.

An example is the cleaning of surfaces using ultrasound. There bubbles oscillate at a liquid-solid boundary and entrain soft materials from the surface: an ideal research area for Soft Matter.

Methods that are used daily in our labs are microfluidics, high-speed photography, microscopy, and ultrasound.

We work mostly experimentally, yet don't shy off simulations.
